Home Reading Bags - REMINDER!

Dear Families,

We are noticing many reading bags are not being returned to school. Our reading program depends on the bags being read at home and returned to school so that the next book can go home. Please know that your child has been practicing this book for several days and has become an expert at reading it, therefore, is excited to share it with you.

Thank you for supporting your child’s reading growth!

Spelling/Word Study List

This week attached to your child's spelling/word study list will be some activities to provide "extra" practice in learning the skill of the week and red words.  Your child can choose the activity and have fun practicing!  Remember, the more your child practices a task, the better he or she will become at that task! :)

Everyday Math and Raz-Kids

This week your child will be bringing home specific log in information for both RAZ-Kids (a reading website) and Everyday Math E-Suites (an online version of our math program).  Please take advantage of these sites as they are free for your child to access from any computer connected to the internet.

Time to Order YEARBOOKS

Just a reminder that the Yearbook sales form was sent home last week.  This is the time to order! The due date is Nov. 30th and you will not be able to order a yearbook after this date.  Many families miss this and are very sad.  If you need another form please send me a note and I will include another one in your child's green folder.

Special Visitor!

Today in reading workshop we had a special visitor.  "Clara the Careful Clarifier" stopped by to teach/review two reading strategies.  Clara teaches strategies to help readers "clarify" unknown words.  Today she modeled Eagle Eye (look at the pictures for clues) and Lips the Fish (get your lips ready to say the 1st sound).  The students loved her southern accent and practiced the two skills during read-to-self time.
I wonder if she'lll come back tomorrow???

Self-Portraits

We have been busy working on our classroom community and getting to know each other.  This week students have been making self-portraits, noodle frames to frame them in and name plates for their self-portraits.  We have some AMAZING artists in 2nd grade!
Painting name plates - using warm colors

Self-portraits- using the paper collage technique

Beautiful self-portraits

Noodle frames - Did you make these in elementary school?  I know I did!  A favorite!
I can't wait to see the finished product!
