Airport Field Trip

We had an amazing time at the airport during our field trip yesterday!  There was so much to see and just not enough time.  Thank you to Mia's father for inviting us and organizing an experience many children will never forget.

The Chick Eggs Are Here!!

On Wednesday, we set our chick eggs for our Life Cycles Unit.  The students are SUPER excited about this unit!  Nurse Kelly joined us for the cleaning and the setting of the eggs into the incubator.  She did a quick mini-lesson on how to keep the eggs and our hands clean to produce a healthy hatch.  We should have some baby chicks in about 20- 21 days.
Each day your child will enter in a journal the development of the chick embryo.  (I have many great websites we will visit to get a closer look)  Every child will also be an "officical" egg turner for a day.  We turn the eggs 3 times a day.

How To Writing Books

I am posting a few videos of student's reading their How To Books.  Each child wrote their own "How To books about topics of their choice.  Then, they choose their favorite to fix up and fancy up!  You can tell they are experts from these amazing books.  Enjoy the videos and there will be more to come as each child publishes and practices reading his/her book.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain

Here are a few shots from last nights musical performance that Mr. Antonicci sent me.  I forgot my camera in all the excitement.  It was an amazing show and I am so proud of my class for doing their best!  One child shared today during morning meeting:  "It was the biggest day of my life, and I will NEVER forget it!"  :)

Special Guest Visitor - Lt. Governor Phil Scott

Today we were so fortunate to have a guest visitor.  Lt. Governor Phil Scott spent time with us today in our class.  Mr. Scott joined us for word study and ran a red word station.  Students practiced saying and spelling their red words while jumping on the trampoline.  The kids LOVED having him here and he really enjoyed himself!  Below are some photos and some other word study stations reinforcing The "H" Brothers and red word practice.

Solids and Liquids Contracts

Last week we wrapped up our study of solids and liquids.  The students each had a contract to follow with 3 "have-to's" and a choice column to choose activities from.  They loved being free and able to move around the room to the different activities.  When they completed a task they needed to have it signed off by an adult in the room.  I hope I was able to capture the "academic" buzz of the room at this time through the photos.

Apple Tree Reward

ALL apples in the tree = Pizza Party!!  The kids voted to have a pizza party as their reward.
Mrs. Lucier treated us all to english muffin pizzas.  Each child was able to make their own pizza and then had to cut it in half to show me 2 equal shares.  (We are starting fractions in math)
