School Wide Meeting

At UMS we do a monthly school meeting to build school community.  Our class lead the greeting this month.  The greeting was called "The Witch".  Ask your child about the greeting and how we say "good morning" to one another. :)

Burnham Memorial Library

We had a successful trip to the library for reading workshop Wednesday.  If your child checked out a book please return it to the library.

November Conference Sign-Up

 

We are now using an online service for parent conference sign-ups.  It is the same company Malletts Bay and Colchester Middle School use.  To sign-up for a conference, click on the link below.  There is also a link on the UMS website.  Conferences are November 23rd & 24th.

Remember, you are only allowed to schedule one slot per child.  So, you will need to coordinate schedules with your spouse and/or the child’s other parent.  If you do not have access to a computer, please call Mrs. Phillips to schedule your time.  264-5959

 

Two other things to remember when scheduling: There is no space between your child’s first and last name (ex. JohnSmith) and you need to use a foreslash when separating the numbers in the birthdate (ex. 01/02/2011).

Fire Safety Presentation

The Colchester Firefighters came to UMS yesterday to talk about fire safety.  We talked about setting a meeting place with your family in case you need to leave your house quickly.  The firefighter dressed up in all of their gear to show us that we shouldn't be scared if we ever see a firefighter dressed up with their mask, hood, and air tank.. They are here to help us!  The students enjoyed this and learned a lot. Here are some pictures from our presentation.  Our Scholastic News was about Firefighters too!  Great connection!

Fire Fighters in Three Communitites

Library Visit

On Wednesday, October 21st, our class will be walking to the Burnham Library after lunch with Ms. Collins' class. We will leave school at 12:45 and return to school by 2:15. If your child has his/her own library card, they are welcome to bring it and check one book out during our visit.  If your child does not have their own card, I've sent a small blue card home. Please fill out BOTH sides and return it to school by Tuesday.

Open House

It was great to see and visit with families at Open House last week.  The kids were super excited to show and share their 2nd grade classroom with you.

Harvest Celebration/Party

Potato Harvest

In first grade, your child planted potatoes to support our local food shelf in Colchester.  Yesterday, we harvested the potatoes as a class and donated them.  This is such a great way for our students to contribute back to our community!  Great work 2nd Graders!
