October News
Mrs. Davis’s Newsletter
October 2020
It has been a very busy month in Room 12. We are working hard on establishing routines and building a classroom community. My favorite part about September is getting to know my students and this year is no exception. They are a great group of learners!
CLASS CELEBRATION
We earned our first class celebration for filling our class Champ Band Bin! YIPPY! We follow the class and school rules of Be Safe, Be Kind and Do Your Best. Students voted to have PAJAMA DAY tomorrow!
MATH
We finished Unit 1 this week. This chapter is meant to introduce your child to the Everyday Math program and how it works. Next week, we will start Unit 2 and this chapter covers addition strategies.
READING
In September we worked on setting up reading expectations and routines. We also looked at story elements (character, setting, plot) of fictional stories. Next month we will be talking about how characters change and how to summarize a story.
WRITING
This week we started talking about narratives. Narratives are stories about an event. They can be true or imaginary. Narratives will be our writing focus for the trimester. We will also focus on using correct letter formation/spacing, using appropriate capitals, punctuation and checking spelling.
S.S./SCIENCE
The first six weeks are dedicated to building a classroom community.
LOST & FOUND
This is located outside in a deck box to the right of the main entrance (a bit around the corner). Please look there if your child is missing any items. Thank you!
BACK TO SCHOOL
I also want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and patience. This is different for all of us and getting into a new rhythm has been tricky. I am so happy to be back with students! They are an awesome bunch!!
