Math Workshop
We have been very busy in math learning double digit addtion with carrying and using partial-sums. At this point the students know both ways and can choose a strategy that works best for them. We are currently learning to subtract using the trade first method. In other math news we have a 1 month trial of a great program called Dreambox. Your child knows how to log into this program so feel free to use it at home too.

Digital Research
We have been practicing for a few weeks with Mrs. Flannagan how to research informational text. We have practiced with books, a web page, and the ipad using National Geographic for Kids. Below is a collage of researching using the app National Geographic.

Character Traits
Character Traits can be identified in a story by appearance, words, actions, or feelings. This can be a challenge for students. Please ask your child to tell you more about his/her characters in their books. They need to dig deeper into their thinking and support it with evidence. See our chart below as an example of how we did this as a class using The Littlest Pilgrim.
We read The Littlest Pilgrim and discussed "Mini" the main character
Students needed to tell me more than just appearance traits. Students supported a trait using evidence directly from the story. Continue to practice and talk about this at home!
