Lake Champlain

We have enjoyed our study on Lake Champlain.  We had Colleen Hickey from The Lake Champlain Basin Science Center come to our classroom a few weeks ago. She taught us all about pollution and run off from the land that can pollute Lake Champlain. Some of the major lake pollutants are: dirt, animal waste, oil, gas, grass and pesticides.
She used an amazing model of the Lake Champlain Watershed and each student had a turn to "pollute" different areas of the map. Then we had an amazing rain storm that showed how pollutants are washed into the Lake.
Lastly, we talked about all of the animals that rely on the lake just like we do!  This was a great presentation that really helped us understand how our actions can effect the lake!

Getting ready to draw our Lake Champlain Observations - this was a great activity for so many students!
