Healthy Snack Choices

We have been studying Nutrition and learning about the 5 food groups.  The main character in all of our stories "Little D" has been living with the "Royal Food Family" and learning all about healthy eating.  (Ask your child to explain these characters to you)  To make it more meaningful for 2nd graders I am posing this question for them to answer.

What is a healthy snack choice and why?

A  cumber  is a good choice because it is in the vegetable group . (Haylee)
I would bring in a cheesestick because it's part of the milk group. (Aiden)
I would bring in an apple because it's part of the fruit group. (Steven)
I would bring in a cheesestick because it's a dairy product that is part of the milk group. (Stephanie)
I would bring in sunflower seeds because they are in the grain group. (Caleb)

I would bring in an apple because it's part of the fruit group and can heal cuts. (Kasil)

Pretzels are a healthy choice because they are a part of the grain group. (Kiera)
A banana is good for you because it helps heal cuts and it's one of the five healthy food groups. (Zeth)
Carrots can help you see better and is part of the vegetable group. (Kelli)
Peanut butter is a healthy choice because it is good for your muscles and it is in the meat group. (Delilah)
